The existence of a village with the name Kertezi was reported for the first time in 1402BC. It is found in a document of Ioannites the possessors of Corinth, who were the knights of Rhodes.
At Kertezi there are reimagining’s of Fratzi’s house, Emperor Palailogos’s (Prime Minister) Secretary. Fratziz was taken under capture ding the fall of Constantinople. The Turk who kept him had no idea of that man’s identity and he sold him as a slave. In that way, Fratzis survived after escaping and moving into the Peloponnese.
In recent times, Kertezi plays an important role in the Greek Independence Rebellion sending warriors Anagnostis Striftmbola and Tzenos. Anagnostis Stifombolas fall on the first victorial battle of Levidi of the 14th April 1821. That was 19 days after the Greek independence rebellion had begun.
Modern Greek times 1912-13: The wars between Greece and Turkey and Greece and Boulgaria added many men of Kertezi to the list of people who have sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the Greek Nation.
Wars in Ukrane and Asia Minor 1918-22: Many civilians of Kertezi left their last breathe on foreign grounds.
National resistance against the Italian during the WW2: The first fight of the Greek rebels against the Italian troops was carried out at Kertezi on the 15th of June 1943. It was Monday of the Holy Spirit. The battle took place at the location Kalogeros, where a small church of Holy Trinity exists today. |
